What Is The Value Of A Landing Page?

by | Aug 30, 2016 | Question Of The Week

A landing page is the part of your site your visitor first sees when they arrive. It is like having a doorman or a concierge at entrance to a hotel. Now if your landing page is the first point of contact that a visitor is having with your site – you want to make a good impression!

The old adage is that first impressions are the most important, well your landing page is how you do just that.

Sending a visitor to your site to your homepage is likely going to KILL any chance you have of selling them on your brand or product. This occurs because whenever someone decides to visit your site, they have a purpose or intent behind the decision to do so.

Homepage to sites do not cater to the intent of the visitor. Instead they are usually the directory to send them somewhere else. Therefore you need a place you can send people who click on ads or other links.

That is why you MUST have landing pages specific to the intent of the search – to give people the opportunity to buy exactly as the feel the urge to do so.

What Makes A Good Landing Page?

  • Have a clear call-to-action (CTA)
  • Remove your sites navigation bar from the top
  • Keep your sign-up or submission form short and sweet
  • Avoid using the word submit, instead repeat what the customer is recieving
  • Keep the page short and sweet

Landing Page Software

Hopefully you now have a better understanding of what makes a good landing page. Now the next step is going about building it. If you have the technical skill to create it from scratch, or the wish to pay someone else to build it for you then feel free.

Thankfully though for those of us who are not as technically gifted, there are companies who have built beautiful drag and drop systems that we can take full advantage of. Here are some of our favourites:

Unbounce

Price: Starts at $49/month USD (can be cheaper if paid on an annual)

Unbounce can be pricy but with integration available with numerous other services and also being an extremely clean and reliable interface – Unbounce is always a solid choice. Their support is also quite active and so they would be an excellent choice for most businesses.

Instapage

Price: Starts at $29/month USD (billed annually)

Instapage is the cheapest tool on this list and does that while also having unlimited usage rates. Although it possesses the lower price, the quality of the tool is still extremely effectively and has a clean user interface.

LeadPages

Price: Starts at $37/month USD (can be cheaper if paid on an annual or bi-annual basis)

LeadPages is generally considered the industry leader for this type of service. Considering their low price point and unlimited usage rates (no limit on the amount of traffic to a page) – that is no surprise. Using their service is definitely a good choice for most businesses. The only concern to have is that their support can be severely lacking, but expect that to improve as they catch up to their abnormal growth.
